Introduction to the Routemap for Local Public Services reform - enabled by ICT
“We have never actually had a strategy for IT-enabled local public services, let alone one conceived for a citizen-driven public sector. That is where we are heading with this Routemap”
Jos Creese (Chair of Local CIO Council, President of Socitm and CIO for Hampshire County Council)
Creation of the Routemap started when the Cabinet Office asked the Local Chief Information Officer (CIO) Council to lead on developing a local public services perspective on the Government ICT strategy. The aim of the Routemap is to translate relevant strands of this central strategy into practical actions by local CIOs to support public service reform and re-design in their areas. Socitm, which runs the Local CIO Council, has led this work through its Socitm’s Futures Group.

We are now in the final stages of creating this practical, ‘pan-local’ Routemap to local public service reform enabled by ICT. From here, we want to work with key stakeholders and anyone with an interest in local public services to refine our thinking and finalise the Routemap. We have placed questions throughout the document and are interested in both answers which address these questions and comments which address any part of the document (or somebody else's comments).
